About the presentation:

The parent-adolescent relationship has been stereotyped to be a relationship of less importance and filled with conflict. Despite the stereotype, the relationship between parents and their adolescents, and how conflict is managed, remains important throughout adolescence. For example, a positive parent-adolescent relationship is related to lower levels of depression and delinquent behaviors (Hair et al., 2005). In addition, adolescents who reported more conflicts with their parents and reported lower self-esteem and more risky behavior (Tucker, McHale, & Crouter, 2003).

This lecture will present information to help individuals gain a better understanding of factors that affect the parent-adolescent relationship and the conflict that occurs within the relationship. Dr. Kalee Gross will also provide various ways parents can improve their relationships with their adolescents. There are no known risks to attendees or patients. As with all clinical interventions, attendees should be culturally considerate and receive proper training and supervision.

About the presenter:

Kalee M. Gross, Psy.D., clinical psychology. Dr. Kalee Gross was previously a doctoral student at the University of Indianapolis where she focused her training on working with children and adolescents. Dr. Kalee Gross furthered her training with children and adolescents by completing an APA-accredited internship at Primary Children’s Hospital and a postdoctoral fellowship at Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health.
