[CEU] Working with Transgender and Gender Expansive Youth

Presenter: Sloan Strike, Ph.D.
Cost: Free
CEUs: 1.0 CEU approved by UPA, NASW-UT, UMHCA

About the presentation:

Transgender and gender expansive youth have a higher prevalence of mental disorders because of minority stress (including stigma, prejudice, and discrimination) which leads to a stressful social environment and high rates of mental health problems. Adverse reactions from parents and caregivers are closely correlated with poor mental health and an increase in substance use in this population. This lecture will address commonly held myths regarding transgender and gender nonconforming youth, and provide an overview of the latest research on gender development to help provide clinicians with tools for working with these individuals and their families.

About the presenter:

Sloan Strike, Ph.D., child clinical psychology. Dr. Strike studied at Harvard and St. John's University before working as a clinical psychologist in New York City and now Salt Lake City. She specializes in working with teenagers, young adults, and their families.
