Phobias

Phobias involve intense, irrational fears of specific objects or situations, even if it’s not actually dangerous or unsafe.  People with phobias frequently go to great lengths to avoid whatever they’re afraid of, which usually negatively impacts or interferes with their daily life.  

Common phobias include: 

  • Animals (ex: spiders, snakes, dogs, etc.)
  • Natural environments (ex: heights, water, thunderstorms, etc.)
  • Blood, Needles/Injections, and Injury
  • Situational (ex: flying, enclosed spaces, driving, etc.)

Common Symptoms

  • Intense fear or anxiety about specific objects or situations
  • Avoidance behaviors that interfere with daily life
  • Physical symptoms like sweating or rapid heartbeat when faced with the phobic stimulus

Treatment Approach

We use Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients gradually confront and change their relationship to their fears in a safe and controlled manner.
