Bipolar

Bipolar disorder is marked by prolonged periods of time (at least 4 consecutive days and sometimes up to weeks at a time) shifting between abnormally elevated moods and abnormally depressed moods. These persistent mood shifts tend to cause significant disruption in life for those experiencing them, and are not to be confused with day-to-day mood swings.

At UCEBT, we focus on mood stabilization using evidence-based therapies to help clients live balanced, fulfilling lives.

Common Symptoms

  • Periods of elevated mood (mania or hypomania) followed by depressive episodes
  • Impulsive and often risky behavior during manic phases
  • Feeling overly self-confident, grandiose, or hyperproductive during manic phases
  • Decreased need for sleep during manic phases
  • Fatigue, low motivation, and sadness during depressive phases
  • Thoughts of death or suicide during depressive phases
  • Difficulty taking care of one’s self during depressive phases

Several types of treatment approaches can can work, most with the aim of helping clients monitor and manage mood patterns, develop coping skills, and build resilience.
