What “medication management” looks like at UCEBT

  1. Thorough initial evaluation. Medical and mental-health history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and goals.
  2. Shared decision-making. We discuss options, benefits/risks, and what success would look like for you.
  3. Right-sized prescribing. Start low, adjust thoughtfully, and monitor for effectiveness and side effects.
  4. Ongoing follow-ups. Regular check-ins to fine-tune dosing, add skills, and prevent relapse.
  5. Team-based care. Already have a therapist? We’ll coordinate. Need one? We can connect you.

Evidence-based methods we use

When therapy is part of your plan, we draw from proven approaches such as CBT, ACT, Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing, CPT for trauma, IFS-informed, and family systems work tailored to your needs and cultural context.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I have to take medication forever?
Not necessarily. Many people use medication as a tool for a period of time. We’ll revisit the plan regularly and discuss tapering when appropriate.

Can you work with my current therapist?
Yes. With your consent, we coordinate closely to align goals and avoid duplicated or conflicting strategies.

What about controlled substances (e.g., stimulants for ADHD, benzodiazepines, opioid-use-disorder treatments)?
We follow evidence-based, safety-first guidelines and applicable laws. When clinically indicated, we discuss options, monitoring, and alternatives to ensure safe and effective care.

Is this only for “diagnosed” conditions?
No. You don’t need a prior diagnosis. Dr. Barusch offers thorough and comprehensive evaluations

Will you also talk about lifestyle and non-medication supports?
If it feels relevant. Sleep, movement, nutrition, mindfulness, and social connection often improve outcomes when combined with medication and therapy.
