Anxiety

Anxiety disorders involve excessive worry, fear, or avoidance that disrupts daily life. UCEBT offers evidence-based therapies to help clients manage anxiety, combining treatment with strengths-based strategies to restore confidence and resilience.

Common Symptoms

For Adults

  • Persistent worry or fear
  • Physical symptoms such as restlessness, rapid heartbeat, and muscle tension
  • Difficulty concentrating or sleeping
  • Avoidance of anxiety-provoking situations

For Children

A little bit of anxiety is necessary because it highlights what we need to be paying attention to, but we want to watch out for when the anxiety gets so big that we want to escape in some way.

How do you know if your child is experiencing “too much” anxiety?

When it’s getting in the way and stopping them from doing the things they want to do, things that other kids their age are doing, or things that are necessary for them to do:

  • Avoiding social situations
  • Refusing to go to school
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Obsessive / inflexible about grades

Treatment Approach

We primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to reduce anxiety symptoms, focusing on strategies to manage thoughts and confront fears in a safe, supportive environment.
