Sheila Crowell, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, postdoctoral training coordinator, and co-founder of UCEBT. She has intensive training and over two decades of experience as a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) provider. Dr. Crowell works with self-harming and suicidal adolescent and adult clients in the DBT program as well as clients with complex trauma histories. She also sees clients on the Anxiety and Mood (A&M) team, where she works with adolescents and adults who struggle with worry, overthinking, and negative thought patterns using rumination-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (RF-CBT). Dr. Crowell also has several unique areas of expertise, including supporting and coaching parents of adolescents and young adults, working with pregnant and postnatal clients, and helping high-level academic researchers and administrators to achieve career success.
Dr. Crowell is a professor of psychology at the University of Oregon and a former psychology professor at the University of Utah. She lives and works in Eugene, Oregon and sees Utah clients via telehealth. Her prior experience living and working in Utah makes her an ideal fit for clients hoping to find someone with knowledge of Utah culture but seeking the extra sense of privacy that can come from working with someone who lives out of state. Her experience as a university professor makes her an especially good fit for those studying or working in a college setting.
Dr. Crowell received her doctoral degree from the University of Washington, where she trained directly with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the DBT treatment developer. She also received her training in RF-CBT under the direct supervision of Dr. Ed Watkins, who developed that treatment, and she has been a clinical trial therapist with Dr. Watkins to test RF-CBT in adolescent clients. Dr. Crowell also has formal training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT). She is committed to using therapies that work to change people’s lives while also flexibly adapting to the unique needs and life stages of her clients. Dr. Crowell maintains a small caseload and often has a waitlist for services, but she provides direct supervision to doctoral and postdoctoral trainees who benefit from Dr. Crowell’s expertise while providing accessible and lower cost services.
