UCEBT offers graduate students two options for a training practicum experience. Students can opt for either an 8-hour per week or a 16-hour per week commitment, depending on their specific training goals.
Students will be part of a primary clinical team and will hold secondary clinical responsibilities on other teams. Those teams are Anxiety and Mood (meets Thursdays at 12), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (meets Wednesdays at 12:15), and Trauma, Stress, and Resilience (meets Wednesdays at 9). Students should express their interest in specific teams in their cover letter. Students will also have the opportunity to gain experience in assessment and testing.
Students receive supervision multiple times per week, in the form of individual and group supervision as well as clinical team consultation.
UCEBT’s treatment team model allows for access to excellent consultation teams, focus on case conceptualization, experience with complex clients, and great training in risk management. This placement is also unique in the range of evidence-based protocols and modalities that students have exposure to. Our clinicians and supervisors practice ACT, CBT, EMDR, DBT, prolonged exposure, CPT, and TF-CBT.
Our client population varies widely. We treat a range of anxiety disorders, depression, gender dysphoria, OCD, trauma, chronic pain, school refusal, etc. Many UCEBT cases are diagnostically complex, including severe psychopathology and higher risk cases.
A student’s schedule at UCEBT is relatively flexible. For example, a student could see clients on Mondays and Wednesdays on our Trauma team as long as they could attend the 12pm meeting on Tuesdays. Students are trained in both in-person and telehealth. Students are encouraged to come to the center in-person at least one day per week in order to improve the quality of the training experience in terms of connection and community.
UCEBT’s training program is designed to prepare students for professional clinical life. Our students have the opportunity to participate as clinicians in our sliding scale program, which is an important part of how UCEBT increases access to mental health care in the community.
There will be a mandatory orientation date in mid-May. Before starting direct client hours, students are expected to accrue 8 hours of observation (i.e., intakes, groups, team meetings). Those hours should be completed by August 15th at the latest, so that individual and group clients can be assigned no later than the third week of August.
A professional development series with leaders in the clinic will also be offered over the summer.
We offer a professional development account for students to use for training, books, gas money, etc. (it’s quite flexible). Students who are at UCEBT 8-hours per week will receive $250 and students who are at UCEBT 16-hours per week will receive $500.
Graduate student applications are due by February 16, 2026. We will hold an interview day on Friday, February 27.
Students who are interested in applying should send a CV and a brief cover letter expressing their interests to Karina Hess (karina.hess@ucebt.com) and Sloan Strike (sloan.strike@ucebt.com). In their cover letter, students should include their preferences for clinical teams and expected days available.
If there are any questions, please reach out to our training coordinator, Sloan Strike, PhD, at sloan.strike@ucebt.com.
